SEEING FRIENDS AND VISITING WITH THE AMISH........

Wednesday, July8th, Jack and I took off for Allentown, Pa., to visit our BEST MAN in our wedding, Lee Machemer. We had not seen him in thirty some years and it was soooo good to catch up with his life. He was like a little brother to Jack and I while we were dating and we had missed him over the years. After spending several hours with him we took off for Amish country. It was so beautiful driving through the farms, orchards, and manicured lawns and gardens in that area. I've never seen so many flowers everywhere. Soon we came to Lancaster and there was so much to see in this BEAUTIFUL city. We went straight to tour a working Amish farm. It was a guided tour so we learned so much about these industrious, simple, HAPPY people. We took a buggy ride, shopped where they sell their homemade items, and ate at "Good'n'Plenty" resturant where you set at these huge family tables and ate a HUGE authentic Amish dinner. All homemade...for instance, we had fried chicken (better than Kentucky)/pork roast, homemade bread, homemade jam and butter, coleslaw (different but so good), mashed potatoes, gravy, applesauce, Chow Chow (bought some to bring home and make), shofly pie, and much more. We sat with a family who had cousins from Germany visiting. It was really fun!!!
